Ven. Galagodaatthe Gnanasara thero filed a writ petition today (13th) at the Supreme Court, pleading to issue an order invalidating the decision made by the presiding officer in Kurunegala District to reject the nomination papers which was filed by “Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya” to contest in the upcoming general election from Kurunegala under his leadership.
Petitioner Ven. Gnanasara has stated in his petition that the presiding officer of the district has rejected the nomination papers of “Ape Jana Bala Pakshaya” due to an issue with in an affidavit of a candidate attached to it, and that a district presiding officer does not have the authority to reject such nominations as per the election laws in force.
