EC requests Police to postpone inquiries on Rishad and Ravi K

The National Election Commission has requested Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C. D. Wickremeratne to postpone inquiries relating to cases involving politicians Rishad Bathiudeen and Ravi Karunanayake until the conclusion of the 05 August General Election.

In a letter to the Acting IGP, Chairman of the Commission Mahinda Deshapriya pointed out that it was unanimously agreed during the last party leader’s meeting to postpone inquiries into cases pertaining to the two politicians.

The request has been put forward to postpone Police inquiries pertaining to the two politicians at a time when they are engaged in election campaigns in order to hold a free and fair election, he further said.

Former Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen who was summoned before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) today (20), has informed through his lawyer that he is unable to appear and to assign a new date following the conclusion of the General Election.
