Health minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi, along with some of her colleagues practiced a religious ritual today to combat the rapid spread of the coronavirus as Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa urged mainstream religious leaders to pray for an end to the pandemic.

The mawratanews.lk website said Wanniracahchi smashed into the Kalu ganga a clay pot of blessed water reportedly given to her by Dr. Eliyantha White.

Ministers Udaya Gammanpila and Prasanna Ranatunga also threw similar water pots into the Kelani river at two separate locations.

It is learnt that ministers in other districts too had been asked to practice the similar rituals.

Dr. White, who says he is a personal physician of prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, had also dropped a pot into the Madu ganga.

The move came as the Buddha Sasana and Religious Affairs Ministry asked clergy of all denominations to conduct special blessings to seek and end the virus spreading in the country. (NewsWire)
