Highest number of vaccines administered yesterday, More Sputnik vaccines arrive

The highest number of COVID-19 vaccines administered in a single day was recorded yesterday in Sri Lanka.

State Minister Professor Channa Jayasumana said a total of 571, 589 vaccines were administered yesterday. 

He said 536, 438 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine and 12,604 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine were provided during this period. 

The Moderna vaccine was provided to 20, 873 people, while the Pfizer vaccine was administered to 1,674 people, he added. 

The number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Sri Lanka thus far has surpassed the 20 million mark.

A total of 20,126,990 vaccines have now been administered in the country via the Covid vaccination drive rolled out across Sri Lanka. 

The Epidemiology Unit said 12, 423,579 people have received a single dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Unit added that 7,703,411 people have been fully vaccinated (2 doses) thus far in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, another stock of the Sputnik V Covid vaccines arrived in Sri Lanka this morning.

Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said 15,000 doses of the vaccine arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake from Russia. (NewsWire)
