The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) plans to bring a no-confidence motion against Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne, MP Ajith P. Perera said in Parliament today, claiming that the Speaker is unfit to hold office.
Perera accused the Speaker of rejecting a previously submitted No-Confidence Motion without giving reasons for the decision. He argued that such actions undermine parliamentary democracy and accountability.
Earlier Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and Chief Opposition Whip Gayantha Karunathilake echoed Perera’s concerns, expressing their disappointment over the Speaker’s conduct.
The tensions mounts over the Speaker’s handling of parliamentary procedure, particularly following the ruling pertaining to the No-Confidence Motion against Deputy Minister Aruna Jayasekera. (Newswire)
