Opposition MP Dayasiri Jayasekara says he does not use Facebook because he believes it is “full of fools” and is “not a place where intelligent people engage in debate,” despite maintaining an official Facebook page that is regularly updated with his political activities.
Speaking at a public event, Jayasekara said he avoids the social media platform as he does not consider it a space for meaningful discussion.
“I don’t go on Facebook because it’s full of fools. It is not a battleground where intelligent people fight. That’s why I don’t go there or even look at it,” he said.
Jayasekara made the remarks while alleging that the government is attempting to discredit opposition politicians by branding them as criminals, racists, drug traffickers or corrupt individuals.
He claimed that once such labels are attached to opposition figures, it becomes difficult for them to clear their names and continue their political work.
Although Jayasekara said he does not use Facebook personally, he maintains a public Facebook page that is regularly updated with videos, statements and information on his political activities. (Newswire)
