The Sri Lankan Muslim Cultural Centre UK (SLMCC UK), in collaboration with COSMOS UK, has donated over Rs. 20 million towards Sri Lanka’s recovery and rebuilding efforts under the HELP Sri Lanka – Recovery & Rebuilding Initiative.
The funds were officially handed over to Muslim Aid Sri Lanka and the All Ceylon Jammiyathul Ulama (ACJU) at a special ceremony held at the Sri Lankan Muslim Cultural Centre in Harrow.
The event was attended by Mr. Faizer Khan, Country Director of Muslim Aid Sri Lanka, and Ash-Sheikh Arkam Nooramith, General Secretary of ACJU. The donation was presented by Mr. Segu Razeen, President of SLMCC UK, together with members of the Board of Trustees, alongside Mr. Shakeer Nawas, President of COSMOS UK.
Founded in 2000, SLMCC UK is a Harrow-based registered charity and the first Islamic centre in Europe established by Sri Lankan Muslims. The Centre functions as a cultural, religious, and educational hub, delivering a wide range of programmes for children, youth, and families. In recognition of its strong governance and community service, SLMCC UK was awarded the Beacon Mosque Award in 2021 as the Best Run Mosque in the United Kingdom.
In addition to this contribution, SLMCC UK also donated £6,000 (approximately Rs. 2.5 million) from the £25,000 Rebuilding Sri Lanka Fund, which was collectively handed over last month by Sri Lankan Muslim organisations in the UK to His Excellency Mr. Nimal Senadheera, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom.
Muslim Aid Sri Lanka and ACJU have jointly implemented several impactful projects across the country, gaining recognition for addressing critical community needs at the grassroots level. SLMCC UK has previously partnered with both organisations and continues to support their ongoing humanitarian and development initiatives.
SLMCC UK expressed its sincere appreciation to all donors for their generous support and acknowledged COSMOS UK for its outreach efforts, which helped achieve the fundraising target within a short period of time.
