Five killed in separate road accidents around the country

A 44-year-old man was killed in an accident near the Kudagahapitiya junction in Wattala. The accident occurred when a motorcycle collided with a bicycle. Police said the cyclist had already died by the time he was admitted to the Ragama Hospital. The deceased was a resident of Ragama, and further investigations are being conducted by the Wattala Police.

Meanwhile, a pedestrian was killed in an accident at Jayamawatha on the Panadura–Moratuwa new road in Egoda Uyana. The accident occurred when a motorcycle travelling towards Panadura struck a pedestrian crossing the road. The injured pedestrian was admitted to the Panadura Hospital but later succumbed to injuries. The deceased was a 50-year-old resident of Koralawewa. Egoda Uyana Police are conducting further investigations.

In another incident, a motorcycle travelling towards Vavuniya collided with a bicycle travelling in the same direction at Ramanur on the Puliyankulam–Vavuniya road. The pillion rider of the motorcycle was thrown off the road and sustained serious injuries. He was admitted to the Puliyankulam Hospital where he later died. The deceased was a 59-year-old resident of Katupotha.

In a separate accident at Ranala on the Hanwella–Colombo road, a bus travelling towards Colombo collided head-on with a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction. The injured motorcyclist was admitted to the Nawagamuwa Hospital where he later died. The deceased was a 34-year-old resident of Kegalle. The bus driver has been arrested and further investigations are being carried out by the Nawagamuwa Police.

Another fatal accident was reported in the Sammanthurai area when a tractor veered off the road after the driver lost control and the driver was run over by the same vehicle. The injured driver died at the scene. He was identified as a 40-year-old resident of Ampara. Further investigations are being conducted by the Karaitivu Police. (NewsWire)
