Sampath Manamperi to surrender, Court orders security

Former SLPP local government member Sampath Manamperi will surrender to court, his lawyers told the Court of Appeal today. He is wanted over the discovery of chemicals linked to ICE production in Middeniya. The court ordered police to ensure his security upon surrender, following a writ petition by his attorneys.

Govt aims for 50 multimodal transport centres by 2029

Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake says at least 50 multimodal transport centres will be established by 2029, with 15 planned in Colombo by 2026. He made the remarks at the launch of renovations to the Pettah Central Bus Stand, a Rs. 425 million project under the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme, expected to be completed in eight months.

SLPP sources say a new political initiative titled “Mahinda Sulangin Namal Suwanda” will be launched soon. Another ICE factory found in Hambantota

Police have uncovered a crystal meth (ICE) production factory at an apartment complex in Hambantota, seizing 52 liters of chemicals, equipment, and a vehicle suspected of transporting drugs. A 20-year-old Wellawaya resident, linked to underworld figure Suranga, was arrested and will be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court. This marks the latest ICE factory discovery following similar raids in Nuwara Eliya, Middeniya, Netolipitiya, and Kandana.

Uva Governor thanks Muslim community for support after Ella bus tragedy

Uva Province Governor Kapila Jayasekara thanked the Muslim community for their support after the Ella–Wellawaya bus accident that killed 15 people. Community members from several areas provided free funeral transport to Tangalle. The governor visited the Anwar Jumma Mosque in Badulla on Sept. 12 to personally extend his gratitude to religious leaders and community members who assisted in the aftermath.
