A group of 185 Sri Lankan Police officers is set to be deployed to Haiti in three contingents for United Nations peacekeeping duties, with the first two groups scheduled to leave this month.
The remaining group is expected to depart for Haiti in November, according to the Police Media Division.
Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya met the officers at the Police Special Task Force Training School in Katukurunda on Tuesday (06), where he provided instructions and extended his best wishes ahead of their deployment.
The IGP was also accorded a guard of honour by STF officers and later posed for a group photograph with the personnel selected for the peacekeeping mission.
The 185-member contingent comprises 174 Police Special Task Force personnel and 11 other police officers, including two doctors from the Police Medical Division.
The three groups include officers of various ranks, ranging from Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Police to Chief Inspectors, Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, Sergeants, Constables and drivers. Female police officers are also among those selected for the mission. (Newswire)
