More Suspects arrested over Maligawatta & Soysapura shooting incidents

Three suspects have been arrested in connection to the shootings reported in the Maligawatta and Soysapura areas.

A 38 year- old man has been arrested on charges of conspiring and aiding the shooting incident reported in Maligawatta on 30 May.

The suspect was arrested by the Maligawatta Police based on investigations carried out into the incident.

A 35 year-old man who was found with gunshot injuries close to a housing complex in Maligawatta on 30 May is receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital.

The first suspect to be arrested over the incident has been detained till 7 June under court orders and is being interrogated by the Maligawatta Police.

Two other suspects arrested in connection to the incident have been detained till 8 June and are being interrogated by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

The 4th suspect who was arrested yesterday is to be produced before the Hulftsdorp Magistrates Court today. 

Meanwhile, two suspects have been arrested over the shooting incident reported in the Soysapura area in Mount Lavinia on 29 May.

Unknown gunmen from inside a car had open-fired at a restaurant in Soysapura and had fled the area.

A Police Sergeant and two Police Constables who were on duty at a roadblock close to the restaurant were interdicted on charges of failing to prevent the attack.

Officials from the Mount Lavinia Police arrested two suspects in the Angulana and Ratmalana areas yesterday in connection to the shooting.

The officers had also seized 1gram each of heroin from the two suspects, who have been identified as residents of Angulana.

The two men are to be produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court today.
