Former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage today said that he only “suspects” that the 2011 Cricket World Cup final between Sri Lanka and India was fixed.

On Thursday (18), the former Sports Minister made a shocking revelation, stating the match had been fixed.

However, addressing the media today, Aluthgamage clarified that he had only suspected a betrayal during the tournament.

He requested media to remain silent as investigations have began.

Aluthgamage’s allegations of match-fixing caused an uproar with many, including cricketers and politicians, with some calling for an investigation.

A special investigating team of the Ministry of Sports today recorded a statement from Mahindananda Aluthgamage on his allegations.

Aluthgamage said he handed over a 6 page letter to the investigation unit with details.

Officials from the Police Unit of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) had recorded the statement from Aluthgamage at his office in Nawalapitiya.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) too has said it will question former Minister of Sports Mahindananda Aluthgamage on his statement.
