The 17th Police officer from the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over links to drug lords.

A Police Constable (PC) attached to the PNB was arrested by the CID in Ragama last night.

The arrest comes following the detention of a Senior Inspector (IP) who surrendered to the Kadawatha Police last afternoon.

In June, 4 officers from the PNB were interdicted over their links to drug dealers.

Later, 11 Police Officers from the PNB were detained until today to be interrogated over their alleged links to drug lords.

The arrests come after an investigation was launched into officers attached to the PNB by the CID after it was revealed that some officers had sold 100 kg of drugs to drug lords operating from Dubai

The officers were accused of taking the drugs from the large haul of narcotics worth over Rs. 100 million that was placed under the custody of the PNB.

Investigations further revealed that the large haul of drugs that were seized by a team from the PNB during a raid in the Southern Province had been allegedly sold by another group of officers attached to the Bureau. (Newswire)
