Former Sri Lanka and Bangladesh head coach Chandika Hathurusingha has beaten a lengthy list of rivals to return to New South Wales as senior assistant and batting coach of the state side, having previously served as assistant coach between 2010 and 2014, Cricinfo reported.

Chandika Hathurusingha was removed as Sri Lanka coach last year

He had demanded US$ 5 million in compensation from Sri Lanka Cricket over the premature termination of his contract.

The former Sri Lankan Test star and coach made the claim after the two sides failed to agree the terms of his termination last summer.

“He has sent a letter of demand asking for $5 million,” board secretary Mohan de Silva told AFP earlier this year.

He had also claimed that his reputation as an international coach suffered as a result of what he called the wrongful termination.

Chandika Hathurusinghe had a successful stint with New South Wales before taking up International Coaching duties with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
