More hotels added as quarantine facilities

A number of hotels in Pasikuda and the Shangri- La Hotel in Hambantota have been included in the list of hotels allotted as paid quarantine facilities in Sri Lanka, the Sunday Times reported.

The hotels were included in the list last week due to a shortage of quarantine facilities and due to more affluent Sri Lankans returning from COVID-19 affected countries on special chartered flights.

Reportedly, the repatriation of ordinary workers from West- Asia, who cannot afford chartered flights and paid quarantine, has reduced as a result of training schools used as quarantine centres reopening.

Officials said blue-collar workers have been severely affected as the quarantine capacity in Sri Lanka has significantly reduced.

Clearance sought to reopen international airports

Authorities have been forced to look for alternative quarantine centres as the initial 14 hotels listed as paid quarantine facilities are now functioning at full capacity.

The prices of paid quarantine facilities still remain at Rs. 12,500 per person per day for single occupancy and Rs. 7500 per person on a sharing basis, with three packed meals. (Newswire)
