An university lecturer has been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of sexually abusing a 16-year-old female student nearly 10 years ago.
The Ratnapura court has further imposed a fine of Rs. 25,000 and a compensation of Rs. 500,000 to be paid by the accused.
The Judge ordered that if the suspect fails to pay the fine, an additional 06-months will be included to his jail term, while failure to pay the compensation will see an additional year being included to his sentence.
The suspect has been instructed to make the payments separately.
The former university lecturer has been accused of sexually abusing the teenager between 01 May to 31st October in 2007. (NewsWire)
