Man from Dehiwala arrested for misleading Police hotline 119

A man has been arrested in Dehiwala on charges of misusing the Police emergency hotline 119 to mislead the Police.

The 40-year-old resident of Caldera Gardens in Dehiwala was remanded till 18 January after being produced before the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court.

The man is reported to have contacted the Police emergency hotline on Tuesday (05) in connection to an incident in Kandy.

Police investigations had found that the man had provided false information to intentionally mislead the Police.

He is reported to have lived in the US and Iran for a long period of time prior to returning to Sri Lanka recently.

The Police have warned the public to refrain from misusing the Police emergency hotline 119, stating that action will be taken against those misleading the Police. (NewsWire)
