Sri Lanka Cricket in a statement today officially confirmed that Ashantha de Mel has resigned from his post of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee.
SLC said that Ashantha De Mel resigned from the Selection Committee with immediate effect, citing personal reasons.
‘We respect Ashantha’s decision and thank him for the services he rendered to Sri Lanka Cricket during his tenure as the Chairman of the Cricket Selection Committee’’ said Mr. Ashley De Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket.
According to cricket sources Either Pramodaya Wickramasinghe or Kapila Wijegunawardene is tipped to be appointed in de Mel’s place.
The present National Cricket Selection Committee, which was appointed on 4 December 2020 consists of following members
- Chaminda Mendis
- Pramodya Wickramasinghe
- Ranjith Madurasinghe
- Ms. Nilmini Gunarathne
- Hemantha Devapriya, and
- Uvais Karnain
