A 23-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion over providing a false tip-off on an alleged bomb attack planned on the Dankotuwa Police station.

The girl is said to have alerted the Police via the Police emergency hotline 119 on the attack.

The Police had arrested the woman, a resident of Mohottumulla in Dankotuwa, last night (18).

The Police emergency hotline had received a phone call last night claiming that a group was enroute from Colombo to carry out a bomb attack on the Dankotuwa Police station.

Investigations launched by the Police Emergency unit had led to officials from the Wennapuwa Police arresting the woman on suspicion.

Further investigations had found that the telephone number used to contact the Police emergency hotline was registered under a resident in Nawalapitiya.

However, the Police have ascertained that the phone call on the alleged bomb attack had been made by the suspect.

The suspect had however claimed that she had arrived at her sister’s residence in Nawalapitiya, and she is unaware as to who had made the phone call.

The Dankotuwa and Wennapuwa Police are conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
