Investigations have been launched into a suspect in remand custody who has been found to have supplied explosives for an experimental explosion, prior to the Easter Sunday attacks.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) had found evidence that Rasik Raza had supplied explosives for an experimental explosion in Kattankudy in 2018.

Raza is said to have confessed that he had supplied the explosives to Mohamad Rilwan, the brother of the Easter attacks ringleader Zahran Hashim.

DIG Ajith Rohana said Raza is reported to have supplied the explosives and assisted Rilwan in conducting the experimental explosion in Kattankudy, in which the latter had been injured.

The 28-year-old suspect had been arrested by the Kalmunai Police a few months ago, and has been placed under remand custody at the Angunukolapelessa prison.

The TID has requested Court to detain and interrogate Raza, following which a detention order has been obtained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (ACT).

The Police Spokesman said Raza is to be interrogated by the TID over his involvement in supplying explosive materials, concealing the explosives, and aiding Rilwan in the experiment. (NewsWire)
