Travel restrictions : 11 points on rules applicable from tonight

All Island travel restriction will be imposed from 11 pm today (21) to 04 am on the 25th of May.

The travel restriction will be reimposed from 11 pm on the 25th of May to 04 am on the 28th of May.

However, the public will be permitted to stock up on essential items between 04 am -11 pm on 25th May, during which the travel restriction will be lifted.

Travel Restriction: 21st -25th May & 25th -28th May

  • National Identity Card (NIC) system not implemented during travel restriction.
  • Essential services, including construction workers, will be allowed to operate during travel restrictions. Employees are required to submit an Office Identity Card or document at roadblocks.
  • Food transportation for sale, such as vegetables permitted. Fewer people advised traveling with stocks. Such vehicles are allowed to cross provinces.
  • Fishermen are allowed to venture into the sea and carry out wholesale trading.
  • Economic Centres will remain open on 24th and 25th May. Farmers will be allowed to move their produce to economic centres during restrictions.
  • All shops, restaurants, and supermarkets have been instructed to operate delivery services during the islandwide travel ban.
  • Vegetable vendors, essential goods, and bread distribution are allowed to be conducted via delivery trucks.
  • Pharmacies permitted to remain open, apart from carrying out delivery services.
  • People are allowed to step outdoors to purchase medicine. The public is requested to travel to the Pharmacy closest to their residence. 
  • Public allowed to travel to the closest hospital to their residence in the event of an emergency or treatment for chronic diseases.
  • Public gatherings, parties, and house visits are prohibited.

Travel restriction lifted from 04 am to 11 pm on 25th May.

  • National Identity Card (NIC) system not implemented during lifting of travel restriction.
  • People are allowed to step outdoors to purchase essential items. One person per family advised stepping outdoors.
  • Inter-Province travel restriction in effect. 
  • Public gatherings, parties, and house visits are prohibited.
  • People in isolated areas are not permitted to venture outdoors when travel restriction is relaxed. (NewsWire)
