Personal dispute cause for shooting near State Minister Viyalendran’s residence

A man was shot dead in front of State Minister Viyalendran’s residence in Batticaloa yesterday over a personal dispute, the Police said.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the 35-year-old man was shot dead by a Police constable over a long-standing personal dispute.

The victim has been identified as a resident of Barber Street in Chinna Oorani, Batticaloa and was employed as a driver of a sand transporting tipper truck.

The suspect arrested in connection to the murder will be produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court today.

DIG Ajith Rohana said the weapon used in the shooting has been taken into the custody of the Police.

The postmortem and Magisterial inquiry into the death will be conducted today. (NewsWire)
