The public has been urged to follow the health guidelines issued on COVID-19 as the restriction on movement has been removed with the lifting of the islandwide travel restriction from 04 am today.

The islandwide travel restriction has reportedly been relaxed from today until further notice.

The Police said despite the travel restriction being lifted the ban on inter-province travel remains in place until further notice.

Special quarantine operations will be continued to ensure that the public is adhering to the health guidelines.

The Police said public transportations must operate under the seating capacity specified in the guidelines.

Public and private institutions must ensure the specified workforce capacity, while supermarkets and customer-centric businesses should ensure to adhere to the specified customer capacity.

The Police further said special operations will be conducted to monitor if the people are wearing face masks in public places.

A total of 743 people were arrested in the 24-hour period ending at 06 am today, for violating quarantine regulations.

The Police said 85 people were arrested in Kuliyapitiya, 78 in Matale, 66 in Kandy, 64 in Gampola, and 50 in Puttalam. A majority of the suspects have been arrested for failing to wear a face mask. (NewsWire)
