Over 1000 Covid burials completed at Oddamavadi

A total of 1011 Covid burials have been completed in the Oddamavadi area in the Batticaloa District as of Wednesday (14).

Director of Medical Technical Services and Coordinator-in Charge of COVID-19 Control at the Ministry of Health Dr. Anver Hamdani told NewsWire that the burials include 613 males and 398 females.

He further said 960 Muslims, 19 Hindu, 15 Christians, and 17 Buddhists Covid victims have been buried thus far.

The Government approved the burial of Covid victims in Oddamavadi, Batticaloa after repeated requests by the Muslim Community and the Opposition. 

The Iranaitivu Island was first approved, but the decision was later revoked after residents protested against the move. 

Burials of Covid victims have been carried out only at the Oddamavadi burial grounds since. (NewsWire)
