University teachers withdrew from online teaching activities today (28) in protest over the controversial Kotelawala National Defence University Bill.

The Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA) said University teachers will refrain from conducting online lectures from today.

The Association further said the protest was launched to voice their objection to the proposed Bill which they claim would privatize free education.

Meanwhile, the National Organizations Collective stated that the Kotelawala National Defence University Bill should be prevented from being brought forth even with amendments.

However, State Minister Anuradha Jayaratne has stated that the Government is yet to reach a final decision regarding the proposed Bill.

All state universities remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, while lectures are being conducted via online platforms. (NewsWire)
