A 24-year-old woman from Minuwangoda has been arrested for stealing jewellery from the house of a woman whom she had befriended through Facebook.
The Police said a 23-year-old girl from Seeduwa had accepted a friend request on Facebook from the suspect and had struck up a friendship.
Thereafter, she had invited the suspect to her residence twice, once in January and again on Friday, 30th July.
It was later found that the suspect had on both occasions stolen a gold chain worth Rs. 300,000 and a gold bracelet.
Following a complaint filed with the Seeduwa Police, the suspect had been arrested and will be produced before the Negombo Magistrate’s Court today.
The Police have warned the public to remain vigilant of such criminals who are now approaching people via social media. (NewsWire)
