Religious function: 14-days quarantine for those who attended

Legal action has been filed against the five trustees of the Mamangam Temple in Batticaloa which had held a religious event recently. 

Coordinating Secretary to the Prime Minister G. Cassilingham said the event which saw the gathering of a large number of people had violated quarantine regulations. 

He said following an inquiry into the incident, the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of the area had filed legal action against the trustees of the temple under the quarantine law. 

Cassilingham said the five trustees had been produced before a Magistrate today and were released on a cash bail of Rs.25,000 each.

He further said the trustees and Chief Priest of the Temple have already been quarantined for 14-days within the Temple premises from today. 

“After the end of their quarantine period, all will be subject to PCR tests. The quarantine law is equal to all during this time of the pandemic because it is to ensure everyone’s safety. We urge all not to break these rules which may result in putting your health at risk,” Cassilingham requested. 

The Prime Minister’s Coordinating Secretary added that the Police are currently identifying all those who had attended the gathering and will direct them to 14- days home quarantine. (NewsWire)
