The Bambalapitiya Police have launched investigations to arrest the Mayor of Hambantota Eraj Fernando over an incident of assault.
Fernando is reported to have forcefully entered a plot of land on Kotalawala Avenue in Bambalapitiya on Tuesday night (14).
He had thereafter assaulted two security officials at the location, injuring the two men.
One of the injured officers attached to a private security firm had filed a complaint with the Bambalapitiya Police yesterday (15) on the incident.
The officer had reported that Eraj Fernando had entered the premises for no reason and had verbally abused the two officers, after which he had assaulted them.
The Police have revealed that investigations are yet to uncover the reason for the Hambantota Mayor’s actions.
The Bambalapitiya Police has recorded statements from four individuals thus far.
They said investigations are underway into the incident while steps have been taken to apprehend the Government official. (NewsWire)
