New laws against blackmailing women

New laws will be drafted to prevent incidents of blackmail targetting women, Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekara said. 

Minister Weerasekara said the Ministry has commenced necessary measures pertaining to the matter.

He further instructed the newly appointed female Deputy Inspector Generals (DIG) and Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) to submit proposals in this regard. 

Meeting the newly appointed three female DIGs and 12 female ASPs, Minister Weerasekara emphasized the importance of creating a safe and secure society for women and children. 

The Minister further vowed to provide his fullest support to the female Police officers to create a safe and secure society for women in Sri Lanka. (NewsWire)
