Principals and Teachers will report to duty from Monday, the 25th of October 2021, the Principals’ and Teachers’ Alliance announced today.

The Alliance has informed principals and teachers not to report to work on the 21st and 22nd of October in line with the reopening of selected schools.

Representatives of the Alliance told reporters today that in order to voice their protest against the authorities, a decision has been taken not to report for duty when schools officially reopen on 21st October.

They said, however, teachers and principals have been urged to report for duty from Monday (25) and to carry out their academic responsibilities for the benefit of the children.

“We are not reporting to work based on the requests of the authorities or the Minister of Public Security. We will report for duty on our own terms and we will diligently carry out our respective duties,” the representatives of the Principals’ and Teachers’ Alliance said.

They stated that despite reporting for duties, they will resort to trade union actions if the authorities fail to resolve their issues prior to the Budget 2022 is presented in Parliament on 12th November.

The representatives of the Principals’ and Teachers’ Alliance further called on the authorities to fulfill their demands and issues as promised.

Schools with less than 200 students in the primary section will resume academic activities from 21st October, after remaining closed for months due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Principals’ and Teachers’ Alliance has been engaged in a trade union action over salary anomalies and has refrained from engaging in academic activities, including online lectures for nearly 99 days.

Despite the Prime Minister recently assuring that the issue will be resolved through the Budget 2022 under two phases, the Principals’ and Teachers’ Alliance had decided to continue with its trade union action. (NewsWire)
