The low-pressure area located to the Northeast of Sri Lanka in the Bay of Bengal is moving away from the country, the Department of Meteorology announced today.

Issuing a statement, the Met Department said the low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal is moving away westwards and will reach south Andhra Pradesh and adjoining north Tamil Nadu coasts today.

However, showers or thundershowers are expected at times in the Northern, North-Central, North-Western Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Trincomalee, Galle, and Matara districts in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the sea area extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai and the sea area extending from Galle to Hambantota via Matara will be rough at times.

The Naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the sea areas extending from Mannar to Trincomalee via Kankasanturai in the next 24 hours. (NewsWire)
