Illegally assembled vehicle racket exposed

The Athurugiriya Police has busted a racket involving illegally assembled vehicles. 

Based on a tip-off, a team of officers had seized an illegally assembled jeep similar to a Montero along the Kaduwela Road in Malabe yesterday. 

The vehicle had been illegally assembled and was operating with an unregistered and fake number plate. 

One suspect had been arrested for the possession of the vehicle and further interrogations had led to the arrest of another suspect. 

The other suspect had been arrested with an illegally assembled vehicle similar to a Toyota Prius car.

The suspects have been identified as residents of Malabe and Hokandara, aged 35 and 38. 

The Police are conducting investigations to find out if they are members of an organized gang.

The two suspects have been produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court, and have been released on a personal bail of Rs. 100,000 each, while the case will be taken up again for hearing on 03rd January 2022. (NewsWire)
