Several tourists who had arrived to visit the Galle Fort yesterday had been turned away due to the first test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies being conducted at the nearby Galle Cricket Stadium.

A large number of foreign tourists and local tourists who had arrived from different provinces had been severely inconvenienced as a result.

Upon inquiring from a Police officer on duty at the Galle Fort, he had informed the tourists that instructions were issued by a senior officer to prohibit tourists from climbing up the Galle Fort which is situated behind the Galle Cricket Stadium.

A group of local tourists who had arrived from a different province had revealed that they had visited the Galle Fort specifically for their child and were not allowed to enter the tourist attraction.

Meanwhile, a group of foreign tourists had stated that they had planned their tour to Sri Lanka to include a visit to the beautiful Galle Fort and were not allowed to enter, adding that it was an unfair move.

Several wedding photographers have also revealed that a number of couples who had also arrived at the Galle Fort to take their wedding shoots had been turned away by the Police.

When inquired in this regard from a senior officer in charge of the Galle District, he stated that he was unaware of the incident and had not issued any such directive.

The Sri Lanka-West Indies test series is being played behind closed doors despite cricket fans being allowed in venues all over the world.

However, a full house witnessed the finals of the Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Trophy football tournament at the Racecourse Stadium in Colombo a few days ago.  (NewsWire)
