Possibility of assembling electric vehicles in Sri Lanka: SL seeks Indonesia support

Sri Lanka and Indonesia are exploring the possibility of assembling electric vehicles in Sri Lanka, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta said. 

Issuing a statement, the Embassy said officials from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta and the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka (BOI) have taken steps to attract investors in the electric vehicle manufacturing and assembly sector from Indonesia

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta organized a virtual meeting with the BOI and the members of the Indonesian Electric Vehicle Industry Association (Periklindo) to explore opportunities in the Electric Vehicle manufacturing sector including the possibility of assembly of electric vehicles in Sri Lanka. This virtual meeting was held on Tuesday, the 07th of December, 2021.

According to the Embassy, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia, Yasoja Gunasekera said that Sri Lanka is developing a strategic plan to promote the electric vehicle in line with renewable energy policy.

Director (Investment Promotion) Nilupul De Silva and Deputy Director (Investment Promotion) Sudath Jayasekara, presented investment regulations and current market information and answered several questions raised by the members of Periklindo.

Participation in the meeting from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Jakarta included Third Secretary (Commercial) Heshani Premathilaka, Government Relations Officer Genesa Lahope, and Public Diplomacy Executive A. Febri Falahuddin. (NewsWire)
