The Epidemiology Unit has issued a directive on receiving the booster dose for fully vaccinated people who had contracted COVID-19.

The Director of the Unit said those who have tested positive for COVID-19 after obtaining both doses of the vaccine can receive the booster dose after a period of 6 months from the second vaccine.

The health authorities have revealed that it is not considered harmful to take the vaccine prior to six months since the second dose for such people.

They pointed out that it is believed that fully vaccinated people who had gotten infected may see an improvement in their immunity due to the effects of the second vaccine against the infection, which may remain for a period of 06 months.

Thereby, it is more effective for fully vaccinated people who had contracted the coronavirus to obtain the booster dose 06 months after the second vaccine.

Regional Epidemiologist of the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) Dr. Dinuka Guruge also explained that getting infected after obtaining the second vaccine is similar to receiving a booster.

She further said the Health Ministry recommends staying at least for 06 months and then obtaining the booster if the infection occurred after the second dose.

Dr. Guruge added that getting the booster prior to 06 months is not harmful, but is not of great use. (NewsWire)
