The inauguration ceremony to digitalize the expressway manual toll collection payments via the ‘LANKAQR’ payment app was held today.
The event was held under the patronage of State Minister of Digital Technology Namal Rajapaksa.
Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando and the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka Ajith Nivard Cabraal were also present at the occasion.
In November 2021, Minister Rajapaksa announced that the Road Development Authority (RDA) will implement optional cashless toll payments on the highway networks by introducing the LANKAQR payment method.
Stating that the coronavirus pandemic has fast-tracked the world toward cashless transactions, he said the introduction of the LANKAQR payment method will be the first such step in Sri Lanka.
The Cabinet had also granted approval to introduce the LANKAQR payment method at the expressways managed by the Road Development Authority (RDA) under the leadership of Minister of Highways Johnston Fernando. (NewsWire)
