A discussion will be held at the next Cabinet meeting on the concessions to be provided to the public who have been severely affected due to a hike in fuel prices, Cabinet spokesman Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

Addressing the post-cabinet meeting media briefing held today, he told reporters that the Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila has highlighted the need for a fuel pricing formula.

Minister Alahapperuma further pointed out that when the late politician Mangala Samaraweera had proposed a fuel pricing formula, the proposal had been ridiculed.

“When Late Minister Mangala Samaraweera had introduced the fuel price formula in the past, as the then opposition, we too ridiculed and mocked him. But I believe now that such a price formula is the need of the hour,” the Cabinet spokesman pointed out.

He added that the existence of such a pricing formula would be beneficial in the event of fuel price hikes. (NewsWire)
