The Sri Lanka Police has refuted the media reports circulating on social media that the Police had forcefully entered and sealed the sales point of a local milk powder producer in Mirihana.

Issuing a statement, the Police said President Gotabaya Rajapaksa had instructed Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Deshabandhu Tennakoon to verify the reasons for people standing in long queues outside the retail shops of the Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd located near Jubilee Kanuwa in Mirihana.

Police investigations have found that a delay in providing the milk powder packets and serving through only one checkout counter at the said retail shop had resulted in people standing in long queues and overcrowding.

SDIG Deshabandhu Tennakoon had reportedly held a discussion with the Chairman of Pelwatte Dairy Industries Ltd on the matter yesterday (30).

Following the discussions, measures had been taken to open up more retail shops of the company to distribute the locally produced milk powder, thus preventing people from standing in queues.

In addition to this, steps have also been taken to set up more retail shops in other areas from today.

The Sri Lanka Police said it strongly refutes the reports circulating on social media with false information on the matter. (NewsWire)
