Elephant harassment viral video : Jeep driver arrested & fined

A jeep driver who is reported to have harassed a wild elephant by using the headlights in Habarana along the Habarana- Trincomalee main road recently has been arrested by Wildlife Officials.

The suspect who was produced before the Kekirawa Magistrate’s Court today was imposed a fine of Rs. 200,000.

The man, who is a resident of Kekirawa, was arrested following a special operation conducted jointly by the Officer in charge of the Minneriya National Park and officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation.

The driver of the jeep had been severely criticised by many social media users for his reckless behaviour and for harassing the animal, which has been identified as a baby elephant. (NewsWire)
