Social activist Oshala Herath has reached out to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over the detention of his father over the hand grenade that was found inside the All Saints’ Church in Borella on 11th January.

In a letter addressed to the President, the social activist claimed that his father’s life is at risk at the Colombo Remand Prison (CRP).

“HE @GotabayaR, My father’s life is at risk at Colombo Remand Prison (CRP) My father age 75 was remanded on the 14th by Hon Magistrate with instruction to provide him medical attention. Up to now, the prison official has not forwarded him to Prison hospital for medical attention,” he said.

Stating that initially his father was sent to Bogambara, Kandy where there is no prison hospital or even a nurse, Herath said following his request his father was transferred back to Colombo around 5 pm.

He further said that unfortunately up to now the officers at the CRP have not transferred his father to the prison hospital for a medical examination.

“At age 75 my father is feeble and has many medical issues as indicated in the letter. Further at age 75, he is highly susceptible to Covid 19. I am thankful to Chandana Ekanayaka Super. of Prison for responding to my letter and taking steps to transfer my father back to CRP,” he added.

Oshala Herath also revealed that for more than 48 hours his father had no proper sleep nor had changed his clothes.

He further raised concerns, claiming that his father’s life is in great danger at the CRP, stating he suspects that some conspiracy is occurring to succumb his father to natural death.

The social activist, thereby, called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to ensure his father’s safety. (NewsWire)
