An 11-year-old child has died after being run over during a race between two tipper trucks in Hambantota.
An eyewitness said the tipper trucks that were racing had reached a narrow stretch of the road, following which one truck had collided with a scooter that had been travelling in front.
A woman and her 11-year-old daughter travelling on the scooter had been thus struck from behind by the tipper truck.
The child had reportedly been killed on the spot after being run over by the tipper truck, while the woman had gotten thrown onto the side of the road.
The driver of the tipper truck that had run over the child is said to have fled the area after abandoning the vehicle nearly 500 meters away from the accident site. (NewsWire)
