Eight (08) out of ten (10) power plants providing electricity to the National Grid have suspended operations due to the lack of fuel, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has announced.

The CEB said that a loss of approximately 424 MW of electricity to the National Grid has been reported due to the suspension of operations.

An official from the CEB said that currently only Sections A and B of the Sapugaskanda power plant and the Sojitz power plant are in operation.

He further said that the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) has promised to provide fuel to the Yugadanavi Power Plant today.

The official added that naphtha is currently being provided and is sufficient to generate electricity today. (NewsWire)
