Sri Lanka Army personnel have been deployed at all CEYPETCO fuel stations across the country today.

Military spokesman Brigadier Nilantha Premaratne said Army personnel have been deployed to oversee the systematic distribution of fuel.

Long queues have been reported at fuel stations across the country due to a shortage of fuel, especially diesel.

A shortage of fuel has been reported due to the Government being unable to purchase the necessary fuel as a result of a shortage of dollars in Sri Lanka.

Three elderly citizens have died so far by collapsing while waiting in long queues to obtain fuel.

Tense situations have also been reported at several fuel stations due to arguments between agitated consumers, fuel shed owners, and employees.

Heavy traffic congestion has also been reported in and around fuel stations across the country due to the long queues to obtain fuel. (NewsWire)
