Fuel shortage: Diesel to be purchased from LIOC

March 30, 2022 at 10:24 AM

The Government has decided to purchase 6000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of diesel from the Lanka Indian Oil Company (LIOC), Minister of Energy Gamini Lokuge said today.

The Minister said the stock of diesel will be purchased for essential services and power generation.

He added that the Government will purchase diesel from LIOC until the vessel with diesel purchased under the Indian credit line arrives in Sri Lanka.

Minister Lokuge said the vessel transporting diesel is expected to arrive in Sri Lanka tomorrow (31).

The Government yesterday requested the public not to stand in the queue today (30) and tomorrow (31) to obtain diesel at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) fuel stations.

The Chairman of the CPC said that this was due to being unable to unload diesel from a ship carrying 37,500 MT of diesel as planned.

The CPC Chairman said, however, diesel will be supplied for essential services during the next two days. (NewsWire)
