April 8, 2022 at 1:05 PM

The prevailing showery condition is expected to continue until Sunday (10) due to the low-level atmospheric disturbance to the east of Sri Lanka, the Department of Meteorology said today.

The department said showers or thundershowers will occur at several places over most parts of the island over the next few days.

Heavy showers above 100 mm can be expected at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Western, and Uva provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. Fairly heavy showers above 50 mm can be expected at some places elsewhere.

The Met department has also issued a severe weather advisory for lightning until 11.00 pm today.

The public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.

Meanwhile, on the apparent northward relative motion of the sun, it is going to be directly over the latitudes of Sri Lanka from 05th to 15th of April this year.

The Met Department said the nearest areas of Sri Lanka over which the sun is overhead today are Chilaw, Mahakeliya, Weliwita (Matale District), Pullumalai, Kalkudah, and Kurukkalmadam at about 12:12 noon. (NewsWire)
