7 deaths due to accidents, including 13-year-old boy

Seven (07) deaths including that of a 13-year-old boy have been reported due to motor accidents in the last 24-hours ending at 06.00 am today.

A 48- year- old resident of Elpitiya has died after a lorry collided with his motorcycle on the Ratnapura- Elpitiya Road last afternoon. The man who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Godakawela Hospital. The driver of the lorry has been arrested for reckless and negligent driving. 

A 61-year-old man from Battaramulla has died in a motorcycle accident. The man had skidded and toppled over after being unable to control the motorcycle on the Horana- Thalgahavila Road early last morning. The man had died after being admitted to the Horana Hospital with serious injuries. 

A 40-year-old resident of Kadawatha has also died following an accident involving a motorcycle. The man is reported to have lost control of his motorcycle and crashed onto a street lamp in the Bangalawatte area on the Colombo- Kandy Road yesterday. He had died upon admission to the Ragama Hospital. 

A 24-year-old boy has died following a head-on collision between a lorry and a three-wheeler in the Wellawa Police Division. The lorry had collided with the three-wheeler in which a woman and an underage child had been travelling at the time of the accident. The 24-year-old boy who is the driver of the three-wheeler has died, while the woman and child have been admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the lorry has been arrested over the accident. 

A 34-year-old motorcyclist has died after losing control of his vehicle and crashing onto a street lamp in the Aththanagalla Police Division. The man who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Wathupitiwala Hospital. 

A 13-year-old boy has died following a motor accident in the Thambuththegama Police area. The accident occurred after a man with two children on a bicycle had been hit by a car close to a pedestrian crossing. The man and two children who had sustained injuries had been admitted to the Thambuththegama Hospital during which the teenager had died. The cyclist and his other 14-year-old child have been transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment. 

A 38-year-old man has died following a head-on collision between a tipper truck and a lorry in the Melsiripura area. The driver of the lorry had been travelling along with two children at the time of the incident. The three injured individuals had been admitted to the Kurunegala Hospital, after which the driver of the lorry had succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the tipper truck has been arrested over the accident. (NewsWire)
