Private Bus strike announced

The Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA) has decided to step away from operating buses with effect from midnight today (5).

The Chairman of the LPBOA said that they will support the islandwide Harthal that has been organized by several Trade Unions tomorrow.

The LPBOA Chairman also added there is a severe shortage of diesel in Sri Lanka at the moment, which is affecting the operations of public transportation.

A severe shortage of fuel has affected the functions of various sectors in Sri Lanka. 

The Minister of Energy Kanchana Wijesekera today acknowledged in Parliament the shortage of diesel in Sri Lanka. 

The Minister said the country requires 4000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of diesel per day but is currently only releasing 1000- 1500 MT a day, which was due to providing the necessary allocations of diesel for the generation of power. 

Minister Wijesekera added that the next shipment of diesel is expected to arrive on the 11th of May but is reportedly getting delayed by 2 days. (NewsWire)
