The Buddhist religious leaders who blessed United National Party (UNP) leader Ranil Wickremesinghe following his appointment as the new Prime Minister have given a subtle warning on the national crisis in Sri Lanka.

After being sworn in as the Prime Minister, the newly appointed Prime Minister met several Buddhist religious leaders last evening to obtain their blessings.

Thereafter, the monks warned that the new Prime Minister will also face the public’s wrath if he fails to implement necessary reforms to address the current political and economic crises in the country.

“Similar to the recent incidents, the elephant too may have to take a bath in the Beira Lake,” they hinted at Ranil Wickremesinghe, urging him to heed the wishes of the youth and public of the nation.

The hint comes after several Rajapaksa loyalists were dunked in the Beira Lake by the angry public after they had attacked peaceful anti-government protesters in Colombo on Monday (09). (NewsWire)
