Two people have died after four people travelling in a vehicle had been admitted to the Mannar hospital after suddenly falling ill.

The Police said the group had fallen ill while travelling in the Uyilankulam area in Mannar early last morning.

The two deceased have been identified as a 26-year-old and a 34-year-old, who are residents of Talaimannar and Pesalai.

As the deaths are suspicious, the Police have presented facts to the Mannar Magistrate’s Court and have moved the bodies to the Jaffna Hospital for a post-mortem examination to be conducted.

The Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at the hospital has revealed that the two men had died due to the excessive use of alcohol and narcotics.

The Police said the other two persons have been discharged from the hospital after undergoing necessary treatment.

The Mannar Police is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
