Trade unions to launch protests demanding Gota & Ranil’s resignations

The National Trade Union Coordination Centre says it will launch a series of protests from the 18th of July demanding the resignation of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Making the announcement, the Convenor of the Centre Wasantha Samarasinghe told the media today, that the protest will be launched in front of the Fort railway station on Monday (18). 

He said the National Trade Union Coordination Centre, which represents over 1000 trade unions in the state and private sectors will engage in the protest alongside the public. 

Wasantha Samarasinghe accused Ranil Wickremesinghe of attempting to jump to the President’s seat after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa fled the country. 

He further said that the National Trade Union Coordination Centre will disregard the curfew that has been imposed in the Colombo district by the acting President and continue to work.

The Convenor of the National Trade Union Coordination Centre said that they will present a proposal on Sunday (17) on the plans to remove Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Ranil Wickremesinghe from their portfolios, and on creating stability in the nation. (NewsWire)
